Traditional/Regional types of saree Draping

Saree-the sexy Indian drape which make one look more elegant and beautiful.Lets have a peep into various forms of saree draping in India.

Nivi Style: Nivi Style originally worn in Andhra Pradesh; besides the modern nivi, there is also the kaccha nivi, where the pleats are passed through the legs and tucked into the waist at the back. This allows free movement while covering the legs.

Gujarathi Style:   Gujarati style of wearing a saree requires the pallu to be draped artistically in the front rather than over the shoulder. Sarees with eye-catching magnificent pallus are best worn in this style

Bengali Style: Draped without pleats, it is wrapped around the waist and drawn back to the right side and the pallu is slung over the left shoulder. Once again pulled up from under the right arm, it is slung over the left shoulder. Often an ornate key bunch is added to the edge to complete this very feminine and elegant drape.

Maharashtra Style:  The women of Maharashtra wear a nine-yard saree called Nauvari. It is worn like a dhoti at the bottom while the upper portion is worn like a normal saree with the pallu tucked in the waist.

Coorgi style:  Coorgi style of Karnataka, draping a saree involves tying the pleats in the rear instead of the front and a small portion of the pallu is placed over the shoulder

Tamilian style :   Tamilians wrap saree around the waist, the pleats are positioned along the left leg. The rest of the sari is taken over the left shoulder, wrapped once again round the waist and tucked on the left side

Kerala Style / Malayalam Style : It is a two piece sari usually referred to as “Mundum Neriyathum”. His is made up of cotton and colored or golden stripes and borders are used at the edges for decoration. The same two piece sari is available as a single piece sari and is known as Set-saree which is a modern version of “Mundum Neriyathum”.

Mekhla Chaddor :  If you want to be technically correct, then this is not a saree to drape. It is a half saree. The original term for this saree is 'mekhla chaddor'. This is because this saree has 3 parts - The Blouse,The Skirt,The Chaddor.

These are just few of the saree drapes. There are a lot more of styles of draping with respect to regions and places within a State itself
